Welcome to VintageJDSleds.com!
This site was created as a Father / Son project between myself and my two sons Ethan (14) and Spencer Ý12ß. One day I mentioned to the boys that I needed their help getting organized to sell some sled parts on Ebay. Later that night, my son Ethan says "Dad, look at what I did" ..... A website was born!
My introduction to snowmobiling came from my dad. Growing up, we had AMF Ski Daddler sleds in the late 60's early 1970's. In my home town of Libertyville, IL there was only one place that sold snowmobiles.... Mid County Lawn & Garden, my local JD Dealer. I was the kid that rode his bike to the shop once a week and sat on the sleds in the showroom wearing out my welcome on a regular basis. I will never forget the first Fire Series Liquifire I saw... Black, sleek and sexy. Needless to say, at age 15, that sled was well out of reach in many ways. After working at a car dealer for two years, the old man kicked in $ for $ on my savings and helped me acquire a brand new 1983 Sportfire ÝElectric Startß that was left over after John Deere sold out to Polaris in 1984.
Ditch banging in the suburbs of IL ages a sled in dog years! After a few blown motors, college, marriage, kids, divorce, it was 15 years since I rode that sled. In 2006, I resurrected my Sportfire from the family barn after discovering that Vintage Sleds were alive and well. Thanks to JDsleds.com and VintageSleds.com, I have been diagnosed as a Stage 4 Sled Head.
The goal here is to have some fun, sell some parts and help put more JD sleds on the trails. We live near the IL / WI Border and have a cabin in Arbor Vitae, WI between Minocqua and Boulder Junction.
